May is officially “Military Appreciation” month, but at Pen Air – every day is military appreciation. Our roots started with serving the civil service employees at NAS Pensacola in 1936, and we have never lost focus of the importance of supporting the military in our own community, and across the nation. Respect is a guiding principle for us, and we have the utmost respect for our troops.

To give you a peek into our support, here are some of the many ways Pen Air salutes our service members and their families.

In 2017, more than $100,000 and hundreds of volunteer hours were given to various military related organizations.

  • 479th Flying Training Group Booster Club
  • Blue Angels Homecoming Air Show
  • Dogs on Deployment
  • Gulf Coast Veteran’s Advocacy Council
  • Marine Corps Aviation Semper Fi 5K Charity Run
  • Marine Corps League Heroes Among Us

Serving those who serve goes beyond our branch walls. It starts from the top of the credit union and is knitted into every fiber of our credit union. Our employees serve on many local and national military organization boards, and volunteer for countless military related events. Here are just a few:

Stu Ramsey, President and CEO, serves as the 2nd Vice Chairman for Defense Credit Union Council, representing the Navy and Coast Guard. DCUC is the premier defense trade association presenting the interests of defense credit unions operating on military installations worldwide. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Armed Forces Financial Network which provides funds access service to the military, defense, and civilian communities worldwide. Stu’s passion for our military runs deep. One of his daughters currently serves in the Marine Corps, and one of his sons also served in the Coast Guard.

Angie Betts, Chief Member Officer and SVP, serves as Honorary Commander for the 451st Flying and Training Squadron, assisting in the graduation of more than 200 students. She also serves on the Military Affairs Committee to address issues and concerns regarding the community. And finally, she serves on the Gulf Coast Alliance Committee which fosters strategic partnerships between the military and community. She is the biggest Blue Angels fan – just ask anyone at Pen Air.

Pamela Hatt, VP of Marketing and Public Relations, serves as a long standing member on the Board of Directors for the Navy League of Pensacola Chapter, as well as the Board of Directors for the USO of Northwest Florida. There’s a lot of Ooh Rah! at the Hatt house. Pam is a Navy veteran herself, her husband is retired Marine Corps, and her son-in-law currently serves in the Marine Corps.

Joseph Campbell once said, “A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.” We feel that if we can give our best efforts to show respect to our military, that maybe we can be a small part of something bigger than ourselves.

Hug a service member. And tell them thank you.
